About Me
Hi there! I’m Mia, and I have been in the fitness industry for over 20 years. In this time, I have been a fitness instructor, trained as an NLP mind-body coach, and attended and practiced multiple forms of yoga. This is my story of how I became a My Kind of Yoga (MKOY) ambassador and formed Pink Phoenix Yoga.
In my 20s, I believed in and enjoyed the ‘hard the better’ style of yoga where it was all about punishing and pushing my body. This had to ultimately stop when I injured myself doing a pose that my body was not yet ready for. After a few years, I started teaching Les Mills Body Balance – a mix of tai chi, pilates, and yoga that was something more chilled compared to high-impact fitness classes.
Later in life, when I had my babies, my body changed massively. Although I knew my body and mind would benefit from yoga, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
I tried something called Freestyle Fitness Yoga (FFY) that I enjoyed. During the training, I had a light bulb moment. We were at mid-sun salutation and I needed to help my leg forward physically using my hand.
When I asked if it was okay to do that, my teacher said, “it’s your body, do whatever you need to do.”
It was actually transformational for me to hear that it didn’t matter if I had to help my leg to achieve a pose. I was still doing yoga.
A few years after teaching FFY, I came across My Kind Of Yoga – a course offered at Chew Valley from a teacher who had taught me Bodybalance 20 years ago. After completing this course, I am now an MKOY ambassador.
What is My Kind Of Yoga?
My kind of yoga is ‘no bullshit’ yoga. It’s for everybody – flexibility, age, size, gender, and color should be no bar to enjoying the benefits of yoga! I’m all about honesty, so here it is: my kind of yoga may not turn you into a Zen master, heal all your emotional traumas, or make you as bendy as an Olympic gymnast.
